Week 7: Master Baker!
Hello again! I coulda sworn I wrote an email just yesterday but somehow it's been a week already. I don't understand time anymore. Well, I'll get on with my week.
I
would like to begin with arguably the best part of my week. I was able
to produce the greatest food known to man. Banana bread. This was pretty
much a week long process haha. We had three bananas, but no sugar,
practically no salt, and no sour cream, so I had to wait to be able to
go to the store to get them (which was perfect because that gave the
bananas time to get VERY ripe and ready to be transformed into their
perfected form. Bread.) When the time came to make the batter I found
that I had uh ONE bread pan so I had to use a brownie sheet. Little did I
know this would be a blessing in disguise. As I put the pan in the oven
to bake my masterpiece, I realized...I hadn't put any flower in. I'm
not the smartest cookie, ok? But, turns out that a brownie sheet is much
easier to add flower into because I didn't have to devide it up into
thirds. We'll pretend I did it on purpose. It turned out beautifully
though. I am quite proud of myself. You probably could have guessed that
by the fact that I wrote a whole paragraph about it...
Moving on!
We
had our district Christmas party which was great. We had a devotional, a
proper Texas lunch of brisket, ham, salad, cream corn, beans, and
potato salad. And lots of it. Goood stuff. After that, we all rolled
ourselves back into the chapel for
a musical program which was actually really good. I'm always surprised
by the talent that comes out at these kinds of things.
For
any of you who may have been wondering, no. Panda express is NOT
bigger in Texas. My disappointment is immeasurable. Haha anyways we did
go to Panda for lunch one day for a sister's late birthday celebration.
Yes. We went to Panda express for her birthday. This is exciting for us.
So
we went to Ross one day as well. I can't remember exactly why, but all I
know is that we all left with Nerf guns...we haven't quite grown up yet
it seems. They were on sale for super cheap though, so it was pretty
thrifty. (So that makes it a smart grown up purchase. Boom.) But uh
yeah. The apartment is now a war zone. Nobody is safe.
We
had a couple lessons this week, but it was overall a fairly dry week in
terms of teaching. We got to go to the baptism of a man named Juan the
other day, which was awesome. He was taught by some other missionaries,
but we were invited to watch. It was great.
We
got fed some delicious Jamaican food by a new family in the ward.
They're a super awesome family. They also breed dogs! (Here I go on dogs
again...) We got to meet the dogs after dinner, which totally made my
day. They have around 20 pit bulls and a few other breeds. Most of them
are super super chill and really sweet dogs. There's a few that are a
bit more aggressive...and none of those ones are pit bulls. The
aggressive ones were the small crusty white dogs.
One
thing I didn't realize until that night was that you can't see ANY
stars in Texas unless you're way out in the country. We arrived to our
dinner appointment a little early and just stared at the sky for a
while. Honestly the most relaxed I've felt in a while.
Spiritual
thought! One thing that I thought of during our star gazing session the
other night was about just how grateful I am for nature and the
outdoors. I often find myself taking things that are actually super
miraculous for granted. I want to invite you all to take a minute to
take a step back. Find something that you are grateful for that you may
take for granted. God has blessed us with so much the least we can do is
show our gratitude for it. It's something I know I need to do more
often, but I'm definitely happier when I do. That's all!
There's
not a whole lot else to write about this week except that we've knocked
on a lot of doors! Not a whole lot of success on that front, but we've
met some great people...and some crazy people. It's always interesting
out there haha.
Well, I'll wrap it up there for today. Thank you all for reading! I love you all!
Love,
Elder DeWitt
