Week 55: The Trafficconias are Blooming!
Hey y'all! Happy late Thanksgiving. I started writing last week but got SUPER busy and never got to send something. It's been a pretty wild couple of weeks!
Probably the most exciting part was this Saturday when our friend Ben got baptized! He's doing super well and has such a great testimony. He's even talking about wanting to serve a mission eventually!! I seriously cannot wait to see how it all plays out. He would make such a great missionary because he's always trying to serve and share his testimony with people. (We might take him tracting with us one of these days.)
Thanksgiving this year was WAY better than last year's haha. We got to serve at the SA turkey trot again which was kind of strange because that was the first thing I did in the field a year ago. It rained a little bit but I had a much more fun job this time, so I had a blast. Wearing a flag backpack and answering people's questions is much more entertaining than waiving people into a parking garage with just a couple other missionaries. As you would probably guess. As a bonus, I got to catch up with some of my favorite missionaries! It's always so nice to be able to talk to past companions and friends I've made out here when I get the chance.
Thanksgiving dinner was such a blast. We had dinner with the Fish family and spent pretty much half the day there! I became besties with Henry( the coolest 13 year old I've ever met), learned how to crack a whip, consumed way too much potatoes and Dr. Pepper, and got destroyed at corn hole. I also discovered I'm not terrible at frisbee golf! It was a really fun and busy day.
We got stuck in the worst traffic of my life last week.
If you've ever been to San Antonio, you will notice the ever present official flower of the City. The Trafficconia. (Traffic cone) They're always blooming! Ok but seriously the traffic is so bad in some places like the 1604 and the I-10. This one day though, there was a stalled vehicle on the I-10 that backed up traffic SO BAD that a 15 minute drive became an entire hour. Great time to make calls! (It was very tempting to just get out of the car and start street contacting)
I'm convinced we get the best people to teach ever.
A few days before his baptism, Ben texted us asking how he were doing and then asked if he could take us to lunch sometime! You know you're teaching awesome people when THEY start checking in on YOU!
Our other friend, Brylend, is getting baptized next week and he's very much a people person. So much so that he's already fellowshipping people into the ward and he's not even a member yet! He's just
integrating into the ward family so well and it warms my heart watching him make friends with everyone.
I've been in the YSA for two transfers already so the odds of my leaving are pretty high. I would LOVE to stay her for another, but I think I'll probably be leaving in a week and a half at transfers. Crazy to think we're already almost done with another transfer! The YSA is so awesome and I love the members so much that it'll be hard to leave, but I trust that wherever I end up is where I'm needed. We'll see what happens soon enough!
Spiritual thought for y'all is about spiritual promptings. We listened to a talk that I love in companionship study called " You ARE Receiving Revelation" by Loren Dalton at an LDSBC devotional. I highly recommend listening to it for yourself, but one of my favorite parts of if is a quote he shared from a stake president in Sparks, Nevada that says, "A positive thought to say something or do something is a prompting from God until proven otherwise. Just act on it!"
We so frequently dismiss or delay acting on promptings from the Holy Ghost because we see them as our own random thoughts and don't take them seriously. We don't know the difference we could make or the lives we could touch if we acted on those promptings the first time and without delay.
I'd invite y'all to act on an invitation he extends in his talk. In your morning prayers, ask the Lord to trust you with a prompting today and PROMISE to act upon it. He is trusting you with the opportunity to act out His will and He is giving you instructions though the Spirit. Don't put it off. Act! Even if you don't get to hear the rest of the story.
I love you all! I hope y'all have a fantastic week and that you had a great Thanksgiving. Catch y'all in the next one!
Love,
Elder DeWitt
