Week 34: Party Animals
Hey y'all!
Ok,
right off the bat, this was a pretty slow week in terms of teaching and
missionary work but we did get several opportunities to serve! We've
been pretty unlucky with being able to meet with people as of late and
our tracting efforts have been very unfruitful, but sometimes it's just
like that. Hopefully we have better luck next week!
We
actually talked to our mission president about our predicament and he
recommended a couple things. One was to try tracting in the mornings
(which has been a bit better) and also to look for community service
opportunities. Because of this we discovered that apparently Cotulla has
a library! Aaand we live right next to it. Not sure how we didn't
notice it before. Anyways, we stopped by one day and talked to the
wonderful ladies who take care of it and offered our service. So on
Friday we spent a couple hours taking the lenses off of the florescent
light fixtures to wipe out the bugs and clean em up. There are a LOT of
fixtures and a proportional amount of bugs to go with them hah. We're
going back this week to finish the job and we'll probably go back and
help with some other projects they need done. The library doesn't get
very much support, so they appreciate all the help they can get!
This
Saturday was also a member's daughter's quinceanera, so we helped them a
couple of times this week to set up and get ready for that. These
quinces are a big deal, so everyone was SUPER stressed. We did our best
to alleviate some of that.
We don't get very many
opportunities to serve out here (as I'm sure I've mentioned a couple
times already) so we're always really excited to help haha. Whenever we
pass by someone doing yard work or anything, we offer to help but nobody
ever takes us up on it! Probably because we're wearing white shirts and
ties... They don't realize that we like doing it!
We
got to attend the quinceanera on Saturday which was kinda wild haha. It
was funny because it was probably the most members of the church I've
seen congregated in a couple months (because of family), but also the
largest gathering of inebriated people I've seen...probably ever ahaha
(because of family friends who aren't members). Such is the nature of
the party life! Unfortunately. We didn't stay long, but we enjoyed some
good food and talked to some really funny old people who kept roasting
each other for being deaf. They gave us a lot of candy.
On
Sunday the McDowells invited us and Mariah over for dinner in their 5th
wheel. We had some absolutely delicious grilled ham and cheese
sandwiches, fruit, and Bluebell ice cream. Which I just found out is a
Texas thing. Good stuff. Mariah is doing awesome by the way! She's super
happy and is actually being a really good member missionary. She's been
talking to her coworkers about it :) We also have a group temple trip
in the works that I'm super excited for!
Honestly
those are the highlights from the week. We've done a lot of knocking
and stop bys, but nothing really of note happened. Again, the work is
slow but we keep working hard! We have some prospective people who might
progress with some time. Slow burn.
I hope yall
have a fantastic week! Stay cool and if you come to Texas, don't dig up
Bluebells. Apparently it's illegal. (turns out the state flower is
important or something )
Love,
Elder DeWitt
