Week 33: To Civilization!

Hey y'all! Its been a week. A long week, but a week nonetheless! We had about 15 lessons set up and 10 of them fell through...so that was tough. The weather has been hot as usual, but the good thing is that there haven't really been any mosquitoes around! I think it's probably just too dry (since it never rains here) but they also go around and spray for them which I had never seen before. Apparently it works though!

(I don't have a ton of time to write today, so this'll be a bit of a shorter email)

I got to do car stuff this week. Our front right tire has been leaking so we threw the spare on this week. Then later we stopped by one of our friends who does roadside service, and he offered to patch it for us! When I put it back on though, I rotated the tires because I feel a bit better about having a solid tire in front. It felt REALLY good getting my hands dirty on a car. Not something we get to do much as missionaries, so I enjoyed that (as basic and boring as swapping tires is).

Today we're headed to San Antonio! Because we didn't have to go to transfers this month, we ended up with 300 extra miles in our allotment that we get to spend. It's nice to be able to visit civilization every once in a while when you're banished to the boonies. Well probably do some thrifting and check out some shops and whatnot. Should be a good time! We got a recommendation for a restaurant from our group leader that we'll have to check out. Apparently it's got some legit Chicago style food.

Many of you have probably heard already, but they released an updated version of Preach My Gospel! The first thing I noticed and really liked was the subtitle for it. On the previous version it said "A guide to Missionary Work". Now it says "A Guide to Sharing the Gospel". This is significant because goes to show that PMG is for everyone, not just missionaries. So my recommendation for this week would be to go check it out and see what you learn! We should all look for opportunities to share the gospel. Good stuff.

Sorry there wasn't really a ton to share about this week. We had a lot of cancelations, so we ended up doing a lot of tracting and stop bys. Not much to write about there. We did get to install an AC unit in a member's house though! Elder McDowell (one of the senior missionaries) was an HVAC contractor, so he guided us through it. Service is the best. It's a nice change of pace.

Anyways, I hope y'all have a great week! I love hearing from everyone, even if I forget to respond heh. Sorry about that. I love you all and I'll catch y'all next week.

Love,
Elder DeWitt
