Week 30: Butterflies! Butterflies Everywhere!
Ok I'm really not sure if my week count is correct, but I know I'm technically at 30% (because one week is approximately 1% of the mission) so I'm just going off of that. This was a pretty exhausting one ha. A handful of lessons, a BUNCH of biking, and a baptism makes for an eventful week. Unfortunately it wasn't OUR baptism, but still exciting!
I
will spare you the repetition of me saying we did stop bys, because we
do it every single day out here! We had some good successful ones
though. We were able to talk to a few people we're teaching, get in
contact with a couple people who had fallen off the face of the earth,
and get some free food! Sometimes we get lucky and we'll stop by someone
who's grilling somethin up and they'll be in a generous mood hah.
Because of that, we got some smackable sausage and some fire fajitas.
Texans know how to do BBQ!
We
also stopped by these two member brothers who have seen everything
Marvel. I'm not just talking about the movies and shows everyone has
seen. I mean EVERYTHING Marvel! The most obscure movie or show that I'm
sure the studio itself has even forgotten, they've seen it. Everything. There is a line between "fan" and "fanatic" and they have long since crossed it haha. They're great people though.
We had ten lessons planned this week and all of them were on Friday and Saturday. Only half went through unfortunately...
Here's
the thing though. We were on bikes, the lessons were all over town, and
people don't TELL us they are canceling on us, we just show up and then
don't get an answer. So we had to bike allll over town and half of it
was for nothing. Great exercise though! (we did still have some great lessons)
We
put Mariah back on date for baptism! For the 11th!! She just has to
come to church one more time and learn a couple more small principles
and she's set! The 11th will actually technically be the last sacrament
attendance she needs before baptism (obviously not her LAST attendance)
and after that we'll drive to Carrizo for the service. What was super
awesome was that yesterday the Corizo Sister missionaries had a baptism
and Mariah was able to come watch it! She loved it and it was awesome
being able to shower her what hers will look like. She is doing awesome
and we actually are planning on having short meetings with her basically
every day until Sunday to keep her spiritually fed and hyped up. Should
be great!
Word of warning:
Beware
of old men tinkering with a riding lawn mower. They might talk to you
for two hours about...well, everything. Dangerous game.
I
guess I should explain the title of the email. So yesterday we had to
drive over to Carrizo for the baptism. It's about a 45-1 hour long drive
depending on traffic and construction. This is the beginning of
butterfly season apparently because as we drove along the highway, there
were THOUSANDS of butterflies fluttering about. We saw a big ol
Freightliner with hundreds of these things plastered to it's grill. I've
been told there'll be even more later on and I find that hard to
imagine.
Spiritual thought: Jacob 6:12.
One of my favorite scriptures: "O be wise; what can I say more?" It's a very simple message.
Be wise.
Keep the commandments.
Follow Jesus.
That's it! Please be wise people. It's the easiest way to live. It isn't "easy" but it'll sure make your life better.
I
don't have a whole lot else to say about the week so I'll end it off.
The work is different here, often a bit slower, but it's definitely
still going! I hope yall have a fantastic week and I appreciate all the
emails. Chao!
Love,
Elder DeWitt
