Week 9: New Year, New Companion

Happy Monday ya'll! Well, transfer news came in, and I'm staying here in Pecan Valley 1st ward. My companion/trainer is getting transferred though. The other two elders in our apartment are leaving as well. We're all pretty sad about it, but I'm sure it'll turn out good! My new companion will be Elder Marshall, one of the former assistants to the mission president. I'm sure we'll put in some good work together haha.

Moving on to my week then.

It wasn't a super busy week, but it was still good. One cool part of the week was getting to help set up for and serve food at a quinsinera for a ward members daughter. It was nice to serve, and the food was good! Win win.

Obviously another fun part of the week was new years! We did some regular missionary work that day, but our mission president told us to be inside by 7. For obvious safety reasons... No we aren't allowed to set off fireworks, but we could hear and see tons of them. They sure do seem to love their fireworks here! It was pretty much constant fireworks all. night. long. All in all though, it wasn't really that eventful.

New Years also made finding and talking to people difficult because everyone has family over and dont really want to talk to two random people off the street. Hopefully now that the holidays are sort of over, we'll be able to meet with more people. Fingers crossed!

We went to IHOP this morning as a district as a sort of last supper together. It was super busy, but they were some smackable pancakes. The next day or so is going to super busy with packing for everyone (except me...) Things will definitely feel different around here once everyone is gone.

Spiritual thought for the week-
Alma 5:46
"Behold, I say unto you they are made known unto me by the Holy Spirit of God. Behold, I have fasted and prayed many days that I might know these things of myself. And now I do know of myself that they are true; for the Lord God hath made them manifest unto me by his Holy Spirit; and this is the spirit of revelation which is in me."
I love this verse because even Alma the younger who had seen literal angels and had these huge spiritual experiences attributes his knowledge and understanding to the power of the Holy ghost and of revelation. You too can know for yourself through the power of the holy ghost. If we seek diligently and put in the effort, God will answer our prayers. That's a pretty awesome blessing. We can get answers to our questions by the being who created all things.

Well, I'm sorry I don't really have a ton to write about this week, but I hope ya'll have a fantastic 2023. Let's hope it goes well!
Love,
Elder DeWitt
